SFO AIRPORT ARRIVAL BRIEF

San Francisco International Airport · San Francisco

Dated research, not live availability. No specific hotel, event or onward route is verified by this brief.

Waymo
Airport: Limited airport access. Checked: 2026-09-14.
City eligibility: Open to the public. Checked: 2026-08-17.
Booking channel: Waymo app.
City qualification: California’s regulator lists Waymo with all four permit classes including Driverless Deployment, which is the one that authorises charging fares for driverless rides (checked 2026-08-17).
Pickup & drop-off: Rental Car Center outer curb — about a 15-minute AirTrain ride from the terminals
Pickup & drop-off: Grand Hyatt at SFO — outside the hotel near valet, about a 10-minute AirTrain ride from the terminals
Waymo is offering SFO access to a limited number of riders. There is still no terminal curb service in the current operator instructions; the Grand Hyatt point is the shorter of the two AirTrain rides.

Zoox
Airport: Unconfirmed. Checked: 2026-08-16.
City eligibility: Waitlist. Checked: 2026-08-17.
Booking channel: Zoox waitlist.
City qualification: Zoox is welcoming select riders and directs others to join the waitlist. California’s regulator lists Zoox with Drivered and Driverless Pilot permits only — not a Deployment permit — and pilot participants may not charge passengers, which is consistent with an invite-only service rather than an open paid one (checked 2026-08-17).
No sourced pickup instruction is provided in this record. Do not assume terminal service.
No airport-specific rider instruction is in the tracked sources.
Airport source: none recorded; access remains unknown.

Tesla Robotaxi
Airport: Not listed by operator. Checked: 2026-08-16.
City eligibility: Public, safety operator aboard. Checked: 2026-08-17.
City qualification: Bay Area operation runs with a safety operator aboard. Checked 2026-08-17: Tesla does not appear at all in California’s autonomous-vehicle passenger-service permit table, while Waymo and Zoox do — so what a rider gets here is a supervised car, not an authorised driverless service.
No sourced pickup instruction is provided in this record. Do not assume terminal service.
Tesla reported serving SJC and said other Bay Area airports still required permitting.

Which transfer should I plan for?
Official observation: Waymo estimates 15 minutes by AirTrain to the Rental Car Center and 10 minutes to Grand Hyatt. Airport access is restricted to selected riders.
EVSeason planning advice: Confirm airport eligibility before transferring. A shorter train ride alone does not establish the fastest complete journey; compare walking and the pickup shown in your app.

BEFORE YOU RELY ON A RIDE
Confirm eligibility, exact pickup pin, destination coverage, price and vehicle availability in the booking app. Check luggage, child-seat and accessibility requirements directly with the operator. Have a conventional transport fallback. Do not walk to an unconfirmed curb.
